[6], 7-93pp, [1], original boards in part-printed glassine DJ, illustrated endpapers. Title in brown to head of upper cover, author to foot, between is an illustrated paper label showing a fox, all within a brown single rule frame, title to spine. DJ's front panel is blank, price to foot of spine, with details of other Potter books to rear panel and flaps.

Spine is slightly browned, minor rubbing to extremities, with a very small split to head of rear outer joint, internally one or two very minor spots of foxing, generally clean and bright. DJ is slightly browned, chipped to spine ends and corners, with a small hole to centre of spine, rear panel has a closed tear with some loss to head, just catching the printed review.

Frontispiece and fourteen full page colour illustrations (as called for). Now housed in a velvet lined drop back cloth box made by Temple Bookbinders, with title in black to spine and again to upper cover, with the illustration of the fox from the front cover of the book replicated to the front of the box. The first two impressions are identical.
