[4], 1-6pp, [63]p, 1-16pp, [23]p, n.d. but apparently 1910. Original full vellum, smooth back with leather title label to spine, upper cover with gilt peacock design with an elaborate floral order, hand coloured in green, red and mauve, lower cover with large floral spray corner pieces in gilt, a.e.g. with gilt dentelles and maroon silk moire endpapers, original fretwork clasps, each studded with three red amethysts. Externally very good indeed. Illustrations and initials printed in colour on japon vellum paper, text printed in red and black, internally bright and clean. Housed in a fleece lined cloth drop back box with title in gilt to spine. The illustrations are by E. Geddes and the borders, initials and writing by A. Sutcliffe. There was a standard edition of this, limited to five hundred and fifty copies, with a further twenty-five copies on Japon vellum with jewelled clasps (as here), of which ten copies were specially bound and jewelled by Sangorski and Sutcliffe. This is almost certainly one of the twenty-five copies, (or possibly an out of series copy), but bound without the limitation leaf. Potter 81
