Three volumes complete - Volume One - [5], iv-lxiii, [1], i-xxxvii, [3], 453pp, [3]; Volume Two - [2], 450pp and Volume Three - [2], 440pp. Full contemporary calf, raised bands, spine in six panels, olive morocco author / title label to second panel, dark green volume label to third, remaining panels with central lozenge made of up small volute and flower head tools in gilt, gilt roll to edges.
Minor rubbing to extremities, couple of small scuffs to covers, corners slightly bumped, very slight splitting to the front outer joint of volume two. Slightly later endpapers, front inner joint of volume one strengthened, tear to b2 in volume one repaired, some light browning and occasional light foxing, but generally quite bright and clean. Armorial bookplate of John Templer of Trinity College Cambridge to front pastedowns.
Complete with thirty-two plates in volume one as called for. An attractive set of Spenser's epic allegorical poem with plates after William Kent, the 'Life' is by Dr. Thomas Birch.
