Two volumes in three - Volume One - xxx, [2], 630, [2], 373pp, [21]; Volume Two - xxiv, 686pp, [18] and Volume Three - xxi, [1], 687-1076, 1-404pp, [12]. Full contemporary sprinkled calf, semi-raised bands, spine in six panels, morocco title label to second panel, volume label to fourth, remaining panels with central gilt harp and crown devices and fleuron corner pieces, covers with gilt floral border, gilt roll to edges and inner edges, stormont pattern marbled endpapers. Covers are worn, especially to bottom edge, with some loss to leather, outer joints rubbed, again with some small amounts of loss to head and tail, but generally complete. Internally some general light browning, but clean. Volume two has a small worm track to bottom margin from the start of the volume, but it has disappeared by the start of signature C, and does not affect any text, there is also a small hole to the bottom margin of Gg. Engraved portrait frontispiece to volume one (which has slightly offset onto title). Presentation inscription from the author, 'With the authors most respectful compliments to the Chancellor'. From the library of Earl Eldon, who was Lord Chancellor in Pitt's administration, with his name and round bookplate to reverse of front endpaper
