Two volumes complete - Volume One - [7], viii-xxvii, [2], 2-440pp and Volume Two - [5], vi-x, [3], 2-484pp. Bound in full calf, later rebacked with original back strips laid on, raised bands, spines in six panels, title label to second panel and volume label to third, gilt device of the Signet Library to centre of covers. Old back strips chipped and worn with small amounts of loss, corners bumped and worn, rubbed to extremities. One library shelf label to front pastedowns, inner joints strengthened with Japanese tissue paper, some light browning, but generally fairly bright and clean. Ee5 in the second volume lacks bottom corner, but does not affect text, plate of 'Dancer at the Cafes' with closed split, not affecting image. Each volume with five hand coloured lithographic plates, as called for, engraved by Madeley, apparently after Thackeray. Blackmer 5; Hage Chahine 37
