Map of Oxfordshire by Philip Overton on two joined sheets, each 460mm x 600mm [920mm x 600mm in total], on a scale of one inch to one mile, published in 1715 by Philip Overton in London, the Second edition, with original outline colour. Some minor foxing, with a couple of small closed tears to central join and right hand corners. This is the rare second state of the map first published around 1681 by John Seller and John Oliver, known only by a unique copy in the British Library. For this edition widespread revisions have been carried out to the decorative and explanatory features and there have been additions to the map itself. An informative and clearly engraved map, the towns and villages being particularly prominent, an elusive and attractive map of Oxfordshire. Rodger 368
