Four volumes complete - Volume One - 'A History of the English Poor Law', Volume One, xxix, [1], 408pp; Volume Two - 'A History of the English Poor Law', Volume Two, vi, [xxix], [1], 467pp, [1]; Volume Three - 'A History of the Scotch Poor Law', published in 1856, x, 288pp and Volume Four - 'A History of the Irish Poor Law', published in 1856, x, 424pp. Uniform original cloth, title, author, place and publisher in gilt to spine, covers with double fillet bordering an inner volute frame in blind, primrose endpapers. Spines uniformly faded, minor splits to head of spine, slightly rubbed to extremities. Some light spotting internally, largely unopened, previous owner's armorial bookplate (Joseph Jones) to front pastedowns. There was a supplementary volume to the English Poor Laws published in 1899
