Contemporary calf, bevelled boards, raised bands, spine in six panels, covers in panel style, with flower head corner pieces and a darkened inner panel surrounded by a semi-circle tool in blind. New title label to second panel, corners bumped and worn, rubbed to extremities. Internally lightly browned, small worm track to bottom margin from start through to about signature K, burn mark to S1, catching text but not affecting sense. Previous owners name to title (Northberwick - Sir Hew Dalrymple, Lord North Berwick). Complete with twelve folding plates. The second edition, second issue, with the title dated 1718 (though it does have the leaf of advertisements and measures 20cm in height - as per Babson 133). The second edition has an extra fifteen queries, "including the celebrated Query no. 28 on the nature of light" (Babson). Babson 134
