DJ chipped with loss to spine ends, a couple of small holes to upper panel with small ink spots, chipped to corners, several small nicks and tears to edges, rubbed and lightly soiled. The book has fading to spine ends, with a light damp-stain to bottom edge of covers, internally bright and clean. With twelve attractive full-page wood engravings by Leighton, with Horne noting that this work contains "probably her most ambitious wood engravings, with their intense blacks and fine white lines" (Horne, page 289)
