Contemporary binding by Sangorski and Sutcliffe of burgundy crushed morocco, spine in six panels, title lettered directly to second, author to third, remaining panels with stylised gilt design. The upper cover with the arms of the Earl of Surrey in a large central oval within a band of onlaid green morocco, set with twelve marquise garnets and twelve turquoises, the arms and crest onlaid in red, silver, black, tan, and green morocco and gilt, with coronet in gilt, surrounded by a gilt intertwined motif of the English rose and Scottish thistle, the leaves picked out with green inlays, having at the top corners the crosses of St. George and St. Andrew, and at the bottom corners the arms of England and Scotland in red, silver, blue, gold, and green, all within an inlaid band of green morocco with two gilt fillets. The lower cover with the same intertwined motif with the monograms of Henry VIII of England and James V of Scotland, the centre with a large inlaid device of three crossed swords, and the Latin mottoes of England and Scotland in red, green, silver, and gold. Wide turn ins with gilt fillets and whorled corners, with small onlaid green morocco dots, doublures of green crushed morocco with foliate and floral corner pieces, gilt and onlaid morooco arms of England to upper doublure, and Scotland to lower doublure, paper backed silk free endpapers, a.e.g. Manuscript in English on vellum throughout in black and red ink, twenty-six lines to a page. Page [ii] and first page of text with illuminated borders in gold and colour, with five miniatures, seven large and eleven smaller illuminated initials in gold and colours.  Externally very good indeed. Internally some minor wear to silk ffep, otherwise bright and clean. With the bookplate of Phoebe Doyle to reverse of front free endpaper. Housed in a straight grain morocco drop back box, raised bands, spine in six panels, title lettered directly to second panel, author to third, the interior silk lined and padded, with a lifting ribbon. Box with structural and cosmetic repairs to upper edge where a burn hole had caused damage, and is slightly rubbed to extremities. An attractive production in a sumptuous binding
