Six volumes complete - Volume One - 410pp [ie. 406 with pages 29-32 omitted]; Volume Two - [2], 418pp; Volume Three - [2], 435pp, [1]; Volume Four - [2], 417pp, [1]; Volume Five - [2], 454pp and Volume Six - [2], 412pp, [2]. Uniform half morocco and marbled paper over boards, smooth backs divided into six panels by a rope roll bordered by single fillets, title to second panel, author to fourth, remaining panels with central wheel device, all in gilt.
Externally fine, internally some light browning and occasional very light spotting, plates and maps again with some light browning, spotting and offsetting, previous owners name to ffep, but generally quite bright and clean. Large folding map with repairs to reverse and now lightly washed and remounted, paper flaw with loss to margin of H1 in volume two and Cc2 in volume four, Cc2 in volume four also has a small closed tear.
Complete with a total of nineteen maps and views bound in.
Vancouver had sailed with Cook on his second and third voyages, and was "made commander of a grand-scale expedition to reclaim Britain's rights, resulting from the Nootka Convention, at Nootka Sound; to thoroughly examine the coast south of 60o in order to find a possible passage to the Atlantic; and to learn what establishments had been founded by other powers. This voyage became one of the most important ever made in the interests of geographical knowledge" (Hill page 623).
