Ashbee, Janet E. (Ed)
Ashbee, C.R.
1337
[2], 87pp, [1], slightly later full morocco by the French Binders (New York), raised bands, spine in six panels, title lettered direct to second panel, remaining panels with central gilt device, covers with three frames of gilt fillets, the middle of which has cornerpieces of floral devices, morocco doublures with three borders, one a gilt fillet, the other a gilt dotted line, the last interrupted by the bindery name, with cream silk moire free endpapers, t.e.g., others untrimmed.
Slightly rubbed to extremities, spine very slightly faded, very slightly browned internally.
This copy is possibly unique as an unknown illuminator has gilded and coloured the title page, the colophon and each of the woodcuts within. Number 102 of 250 copies on paper, with 10 copies on vellum.
This copy is featured in the book 'Bound to be the Best The Club Bindery - Catalogue of an Exhibition at the Grolier Club' by Thomas G. Boss, 2004, a copy of which is included
