xvi, 396pp. Publisher’s linen-backed Holland blue boards, flat spine with printed paper label, untrimmed. Label slightly chipped with a little loss to edges, minor creases to spine, corners gently bumped, internally sporadic light foxing, but generally fairly clean and bright. One of 111 copies, this being one of 105 copies on paper, printed in double column, in Subiaco type, with full-page woodcut frontispiece and five large woodcuts in the text by W. H. Hooper after Charles M. Gere, three smaller diagramatic illustrations in the text, headings and shoulder notes in red, large initials in red designed by Graily Hewitt. Presentation copy from St. John Hornby to the Italian-British scholar Linetta de Castelvecchio (1880-1975) who produced an Italian revision of William Warren Vernon’s Dante in 1908, with the inscription ‘A L. de Castelvecchio dono dello Stampatore C.H.
