Rebound in modern full goatskin by Temple Bookbinders, raised bands, spine in six panels, title and author lettered direct to second panel, remaining panels with central flower device and volute corner pieces, covers with single fillet border, gilt roll to inner edges, a.e.g., marbled endpapers.
Externally fine, internally lightly browned throughout, lacks initial blank. Previous owners gift inscription to ffep, to 'Alfred Edward Pease from Edward North Buxton Oct. 1900, to take with him to Abyssinia' (both were Liberal politicians).
Purportedly a translation from the 'original', it seems very likely that this is an imaginary voyage, with Bent Juel-Jensen describing it as "very fishy", and Job Ludolf in his 'Ad Suam Historiam Aethiopicam Commentarius' describing the book as fiction (see Bent Juel-Jensen in 'The Book Collector' Winter 1981); Freeman 'Bibliotheca Fictiva' 313.
