Two volumes complete - Volume One - 1050pp and Volume Two - 1078pp. Original cloth, title in gilt to spines with gilt coat of arms of the Duke of Marlborough to upper cover. Slightly rubbed to extremities, spines very slightly faded with some light staining, one or two spots to upper covers. Internally very lightly browned but clean. With two frontispieces, fourteen fascimile documents and one hundred and ninety-five maps and plans. Signed by Churchill, 'Inscribed for Ian Mathieson by Winston S. Churchill 1948', on ffep of volume one, and initialled by Churchill on ffep of volume two. Both volumes housed in half-calf and cloth, velvet-lined clamshell boxes, with raised bands, spines in six panels, with the title to the second panel, volume stars to third and authors name to fourth panel. The boxes are custom-made by Temple Bookbinders. This is the first edition of the new two-volume edition. Woods A40(d)
