Twelve volumes complete, bound from the parts which were separately paginated, half morocco and cloth over boards, raised bands, spines in six panels, title in gilt to second panel, volume number and dates to fourth, remaining panels with gilt volute frames, a.e.g.
Spines slightly dulled, some rubbing to extremities, couple of small bumps to edges, lower cover of volume six stained. Internally occasional light foxing, mainly to engravings, occasionally heavier, but generally quite clean, gift inscription in pen to head of one of the text leaves, Bolingbroke (who should be in volume ten) is in volume eleven.
Each volume with twenty engraved plates, for a total of two hundred and forty as called for, each plate is accompanied by a brief biographical essay of varying lengths
