[9], 10-105pp, [1], plates. Half calf and marbled paper over boards, smooth back, divided into six panels with gilt rules, title lettered direct to second panel, remaining panels with small lozenge shaped tool to centre.

Recently rebacked by Temple Bookbinders, rubbed to extremities, corners bumped. Some light browning to text and the uncoloured plates, some browning to joints of folding plates, occasional light spotting, a few neat marginal repairs, but generally fairly bright and clean. Plate twenty-two (a plan) has a small amount of loss to corner not affecting image, the final plate has been bound in upside down.

With half-title and thirty-eight erratically numbered plates and plans (with ten hand-coloured, four of which are folding).

Though the title page calls for forty plates, the work is complete with thirty-eight (as explained on page twelve). Some mispagination, with pages 7/8 and 17/18 being skipped, with pages 59/60 doubled.

J.[ohn] C.[laudius] Loudon, (1783 - 1843) was a Scottish botanist, garden designer and author.
