vii, [1], 334pp. Full contemporary speckled calf, smooth back divided into six panels by gilt double rules, morocco title label to second panel. Rebacked and recornered, with original spine laid on, very slightly rubbed to extremities. Internally some very minor browning, with a very small stain to head of last eight pages, otherwise fairly bright and clean. With the bookplate, to the front pastedown, of the noted book collector Horatio Noble Pym. With the final blank Y8, which is often absent. The first English edition of Beckford's 'Vathek', prepared by Samuel Henley with Beckford's knowledge, but published before the French edition against Beckford's explicit instructions. This is the ordinary paper issue (there was a large paper issue). Rothschild 352; Summers 543; Garside, Raven and Schowerling 1786:15
